Security Tips:
Trying to solve the security puzzle?
If you are reading this website, then chances are you're concerned about the security of your property. Having ASAP Security install and monitor an alarm for you is the most significant first step you could take, but there's a lot more you can do to make sure it's as secure as it can be.
Keeping the doors locked is the most obvious security measure, but think. "Are there any other doors which need to be locked"? "Are there any windows which would allow easy access to your property"?
A practical exercise is to stand outside your house or premises and imagine you're locked out. How difficult is it for you to get back inside? Maybe that garden shed has a handy tool in it to break open the back door.
You should also have a good look at what's not secured. Those bikes in the garage? The lawnmower under the house? Easy pickings for a casual thief. Keeping an open eye for suspicious behavior is a good way for you and your neighbors to watch over each other. If you see someone who doesn't look like they know what they're looking for, or if they're looking around a lot, then they may be up to no good.
Going away on holiday
- Put your lights or stereo system or TV on a timer to give the appearance that someone is home.
- Don't stop your mail or newspaper deliveries, have your neighbors collect your mail and courier deliveries.
- Ask a friend or neighbor to visit your home occasionally, even get them too park their car in your driveway. This gives your home the appearance that it's occupied.
- Let the monitoring station know your departure and return times and whether or not someone will be staying in the house while you are away.
While at home
- Lock windows and door if alone at home.
- Always check the peep hole on your front door so as to identify your visitors, before opening the door.
- Sales or trades people should show identification before opening the door.
- NEVER open your house to unexpected, unknown visitors or people masquerading as sales people, charities or someone wanting to use your telephone.
Your home
- Ensure that locks are all functioning correctly and have Dead-Bolts fitted.
- Ensure that windows lock properly.
- Keep important papers, cash or firearms locked in a suitable container or safe, and that the container or safe is securely bolted to a wall or floor.
- If you purchase new electronic equipment (such as computers or a stereo) break the boxes up into smaller sections before disposing of. DON'T put complete boxes on the pavement.
- Fit an appropriate electronic alarm system to your home and have it serviced regularly.
- Have your alarm system monitored by ASAP Security. Have ASAP Security appoint a reputable patrol company to your home or business.
Shifting house
- Advise your monitoring and security company of the impending shift, at least a few weeks in advance.
- Ask your patrol company to visit your new and old home during the shift. This indicates a security presence to any thieves.
- Check to see if your new home has an alarm fitted and whether it's monitored. If not, install an electronic alarm system in advance or as soon as possible once you have shifted.
- If your new home has an alarm fitted, ask the previous owners or tenants for the alarm details and codes. Have ASAP Security change the old security codes as soon as possible and have ASAP Security monitor your new home.
- Pass the details of your alarm and monitoring company on to the owners of your old residence.
